The Rising: As temperature rises city doctors caution residents
Vashi2Panvel.Com: Navi Mumbai: May 5: With the temperature rising to 42 to 44 degrees, the scorching heat in the city is becoming unbearable with every passing day. While most of us avoid going out in the sweltering afternoons, at times it becomes imperative. The city doctors are happy that not many heatstroke or gastro-enteritis cases have come, yet they caution the residents of the impending diseases.
According to Doctor Harsha Lohan, Navi Mumbai Municipal Hospital (NMMH), Vashi the sultry weather has not yet created problems for the people. “During this season, heatstroke, gastro-enteritis, Upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) and Fungal infections are quite common. But here, the diseases are not really heard of. That’s because of the humidity and more consumption of water by the people in general. Drink lots of water is the only advice I can provide for this season,” he says. If you thought that ice creams and cold drinks are the best respite from this blistering heat, you could be wrong! Doctors caution the residents to avoid drinking fridge-cold water or cold drinks as they bring in more heat inside. “Also, one must have boiled water. Avoid eating from roadside vendors. I get a few cases of gastro-enteritis that happens because of contaminated water,” says another doctor from NMMH, Vashi on condition of anonymity. Symptoms- Gastro enteritis: vomit, loose motions and fever Hepatitis-A: Loss of appetite, yellow eyes, urine, slight fever Upper respiratory tract infection (URTI): Cough, fever and weakness Swati Pandey (With inputs from Dinesh Yede)
