A riot of colours
Vashi2Panvel.Com: Navi Mumbai: March 6: Whenever one decides to pick up a dupatta what comes first to our minds is the conventional matching centers that have been around for inestimable years now. But this shop, in Vashi, Sector-17, has given a complete makeover to the whole concept of dupattas.
Sandeep Khanna who was primarily a wholesale dealer in dupattas owns this shop called ‘Dupatta World’. “When I was planning to start the shop everyone discouraged me to do so as they felt that a concept like this wont work in New Bombay, but I proved all of them wrong because I have found a good clientele for myself,” boasts Mr. Khanna. The shop was started almost one and half year back and is today a brand in itself. “I intend to make dupattas a style statement and give it a recognition. So I intend to open a chain of shops all around Mumbai.” He is very confident that a place like this would work and also be able to attract a lot of crowd. The shop boasts of a collection of approximately 250 varieties of dupattas or more and has dupattas ranging from a mere Rs.60 to Rs.3500 with various patterns and shades for all occasions and moods. Whether it is the conventional dupattas or heavy dupattas to match with a simple cotton salwar kameez, they have it all. Besides this they also have a collection of stoles, which can be carried off beautifully with a pair of jeans and can also give a chic look to a simple kurti. The place has got a classic feel attached to it. “ Most of the dupattas that we have would be found otherwise only in designer shops and boutiques but because I am a wholesaler by profession, I sell it at a reasonable price and I buy the dupattas directly from the manufacturer so there are no mediator costs involved in it,” says Mr. Khanna. He has never indulged in a lot of promotional activities and the shop has mainly become very famous by word of mouth. “ I never had to indulge in promotion because the shop took off from the beginning itself,” suggests Mr. Khanna. The shop is a must stop for people who are particular about their dressing sense and thrive to look different and also for people who love to carry off every outfit they wear with style. “ My main clientele consists of people who are fashion conscious,” says Mr. Khanna before wrapping up.
