Gaura-Ganpati celebration at Panvel
Vashi2Panvel.Com: Navi Mumbai: September 11: For Panvel residents the festivities of Ganpati celebration do not end with Ganpanti Visarjan, since it is followed by another gala of Gaura Ganpati for 1 ½ day.
There is a tradition of keeping Gaura Ganpati idols on the first day of Ganpati Chaturti as per the Hindu calendar. It is believed that Panvel is the only place in the state that is following this custom. There are more than 30 Sarvajanik Pandals, which install Gaura-Ganpanti idols. "Every year Gaura-Ganpati idols are kept on Ganpati chaturhti that comes right after the visarjan,” said Jayent Mahamoni, Chairperson Sayadari Mitra Mandal, Panvel. Ramseth.Takure, Panvel Congress President also participated in the celebration. The idols are 4 to 16 feet tall, with the biggest being the Bhaji Market Cha Raja of Panvel Gaon. And the Maruti temple at Old Panvel is one of the oldest places that follow this practice. The idol immersion will commence at around 5:00 pm today. Kartiki Shastry
