NIFT expands avenues: From fashion to social work
Vashi2Panvel.Com: Navi Mumbai: August 25: Students of Kharghar-based fashion College, National Institute of Fashion Technology are up for a social cause. The students would start a sale of Ganpati greeting cards at Vashi today and the revenue earned out of the sale would go into charity.
Students of all the faculties in the college have been roped in for this social cause that starts today. The students have made greeting cards based on the theme ‘Ganesh Chaturthi’. “The money earned from these cards would go into charity. We have not yet decided the selling price of the card but we will keep a standard minimum rate,” informs Madhur, Fashion Communication student and member of ‘Humanity Vs Mentality’ team that sparked off this ‘social cause drive. Creative connotations of Lord Ganpati were portrayed in all the greeting cards. Students from various faculties poured in as and when they got the time and portrayed their expression of the lord on paper. “We have a minimum target of 200 cards. The more, the better. This is the first leg of the social cause. We plan to continue this on a weekly basis and we hope our endeavour is successful,” says Singh. According to Singh the focus is to awaken the masses. Hence, they also plan to put up a talk show that would give out a social message. “We want to spread our messages through the media, posters and pamphlets. We have already started the mission and now it’s for time to tell how far we are successful,” he says. The idea aroused as part of their subject ‘Communication Methodology’ where the students were expected to discuss social problems and sort out a solution for the same. The class was divided in three groups and one amongst the three thought of the subject, ‘Humanity Vs Mentality’ as a social issue. What does this mean? Piyush Singh, a member of the group explains, “We feel that humanity is gradually being killed in this fast-paced life. The ‘mentality’ is that “we don’t have time,” “I don’t want to pay charity,” etc. As part of this project we were supposed to sort out problems of this major social evil and bring back humanity on earth. However, we all got so engrossed in this project that we have decided to take it up as a mission.” Swati Pandey
