“The season is mostly suited for some very specific kind of plants, which do not flourish that much in other seasons,” explains Yashwant Gonewad, manager of Youth council Rop Vatika, Nerul. “These plants include golden dorenta which is particularly used for bordering the gardens.” he opines. Other plants also include Rose, Jaswant and Cycus Palm in the flowering plants segment. “Cycus is another plant which is liked by everyone and looks its best in the rains, it has shades of green which are glow more visibly in this season,” says Nagnath, one of the caretakers of the nursery. The other choices available are Croton and Fern. “The fern is the most sought after alternative to decorate terrace gardens, the curved look of the plant adds a different look to the entire scene in the garden, it flourishes in the rains,” he avers. The prices of the plants depend on the quality where the rate of each plant changes according to the nature of the plant and its growth. The rates vary tremendously even in the same variety according to the growth rate of the plant. Following are the rates of medium sized plants available in plastic bags. 1. Ashoka plant: Rs.25-60 2. Golden Dorenta: Rs.5 3. Rose: Rs.15 4. Jaswant: Rs. 60-90 5. Cycus: Rs.200-1000 6. Bracina: Rs.150 7. Areca Palm tree: Rs.150 8. Christmas tree: Rs 25-250 9. Croton: Rs 100 10.
