Designs on fashion
Vashi2Panvel.Com: Navi Mumbai: July 19: With the numerous options and career prospects coming in scene the decision for the perfect career option has become much more crucial. Archana Pandey who currently works with Gini and Jony (Pvt Ltd) and had passed out from National Institute of Fashion Technology (N.I.F.T), Gandhinagar in the year 2005 shares with us some of her views about the course and its future prospects.
“The course I chose gave me a great platform to practice my creative skills,” she reasons her decision of joining a fashion designing course.“ The course has so many options, which taught me how to do things differently and also helped me utilize my analytical skills. This course is interesting only if you have always garnered an interest in the field,” she elucidates. On asking her about the course structure and its importance to train a student to become a professional designer, she thinks that the course has a very comprehensive composition, which encompasses every aspect right from theoretical to historical to creative. “The entire course is planned in such a way that it helps to enhance one’s skills which are quite useful in the professional field later in life,” she explicates. Apart from the theoretical and analytical skills that the course generates, it also helps the students to gain a lot of practical knowledge as most of the colleges organize events throughout the course period, which gives the students a great platform to showcase their talent. These courses also help the students to learn the practical aspect of business. “The fashion shows and workshops that are organised on designing helps us to apply the knowledge which we gain during the tenure of the course,” she enlightens us. The various subjects in the course provide a psychological background about the society for which you are designing. For example one of our subjects is “Indian art appreciation” which helps us to understand the values and ethics of our own cultural setup and then incorporate our innovative pattern accordingly keeping in mind the requirements and the acceptance of the society as a whole,” she says. The other subjects in the course, which presents an overall picture of the industry, are Modern art appreciation, Fashion art appreciation and Prospective art. According to Archana one of the key skills that all the aspiring fashion designers must posses is that of good drawing skills as eventually fashion designing is all about sketching the perfect outfit and having good drawing skills. “There have been many changes in the course structure since the time I had joined, today the course has become much more technical and now the span of the course has also increased, it has now become a full fledged four year course, while when I was pursuing it was just a one year course,” she explains. “The degrees which they give now is also different and includes an information technology angle to it, AMIT (Apparel Management and Information Technology), Fashion Design and Information Technology (FDIT) are a few of the courses that are being offered today. In a way these courses are helping to expand the industry,” she adds. The career is bright ahead with wide options and the demand in the industry is also growing.
