Vashi2Panvel.Com: Navi Mumbai: May 29: Change is the spice of life! And when the change is for a good, nothing like it... The denizens of a city always desire a change in their place-be it an infrastructure change, a lifestyle appeasement or more civic ammenities by their authorities. There are certain things which even the Navi Mumbai residents seek from their administrators. While some want more amenities around their place, others feel the need for some civic changes. Vashi2Panvel.com spoke to a few residents of Navi Mumbai and asked them what would like to change about this city if given a choice.
“The road development programme which started later this month is eating up our minds. There are no parking space for the vehicles,” complains Neelam Arora, Panvel resident. There were many people who are of a similar view and want the Municipal Corporation to look into the matter. “This latest development drive, with monsoons not very far might lead to many accidents which could be otherwise easily avoided.” Says Sushma Pandey, a Kharghar resident further adding, “The condition of the road is definitely a concern area for the people.”
Another thing that people do not like about this place is the stray animals that rove around the city. “The loosely roaming cows and dogs create troubles for the people, making it hard to move in an already crowded road.” Says Sahil, a Panvel resident. This is a cause to worry for many people. “The sabji mandi of New Panvel is like a home to these stray dogs,” adds Sahil.
The people of the city also want the central Railways to increase the frequency of trains from Panvel to Mumbai CST, from four trains to at least five trains in an hour. “The trains are a connecting link from here to the city, so something should be done about the frequency,” says Mr.Satish, a Nerul resident.
The fastest developing area of Navi Mumbai is Kharghar but the residents feel that there is no proper road transport system linking the inner area of Kharghar to Panvel. “There are no buses which move from the inner areas of Kharghar and then go to Panvel, which is a cause of inconvenience for the daily travelers.” Complains Poonam Kakkar, a Kharghar resident.
Another key concern for the people in the area is the “Parking problem” faced by them. “The area in front of our college is always crowded with half of the roads covered by the parked vehicles. Moving around there is so difficult.” Says Swati, a student of S.I.E.S. College, Nerul. “I think CIDCO should pay heed to this cause,” she adds.
While there are a lot many people who would want to change the city to suit their convenience, there are a few others who love Navi Mumbai the way it is for its simple culture and sociable setting and are pleased with the city’s life…
Myself Sudhir Sharma, resident of Kharghar. As the kharghar is fastest growing node in Navimumbai but there is no proper bus connectivity and frequencies between inner areas of kharghar like Jalvayuvihar to kharghar station or Belapur. Also share auto system should be implemented by Navimumbai rickshaw union because it will be more useful for middle class people who are regularly travelling by buses & trains.
CIDCO & Navimumbai development authority should think for basic infrastructure also.
I totally agree with Mr.Sharma. Authorities should regularise the rickshaw plying at Kharghar since they do not use meter and the rate are lumsum and exorbitant. so immediately it has to be regulated. Further Train frequency is a big problem and if CR cann't increase number of train, then atleast they should extend all Belapur/ Vashi train till Panavel.
