Hotel Management is not just about cooking and serving
Vashi2Panvel.Com: Navi Mumbai: May 22: Four years of B Tech in hotel management and catering technology was a great experience and fun too. When I completed my HSC exams I was in crossroads. I had no intentions of pursuing hotel management as a career. Yet, I filled in the form and got into LAD College, Nagpur. Being a Mumbaite, initially it was difficult to cope in a new place. I never liked this city, Nagpur but my college and the teaching staff was amazing. Being a women’s college it gave me immense confidence to handle several chores including the physical hard work.
I found the course structure quite interesting. The course is quite lucrative and offers a plethora of opportunities for young men and women. Most people have this misconception that hotel management is just about cooking and serving. But being a HMCT graduate I don’t quite believe that this is the case. We are given lessons on personal grooming, cooking, housekeeping, front office management and food and beverage service. These lessons enable a Hotel Management graduate to not just survive successfully in a hotel but in huge multinational companies too. Many a times students fall into the pressure of their kith and kin and take up Engineering and Medicine much against their will. Hotel Management has a social stigma attached to it and parents resent from happily agreeing to let their child pursue Hotel Management. This course has tremendously helped me in improving my personality. Besides, it has built in more confidence in me. The grooming lessons particularly are of great help. LAD College, Nagpur has well-educated and knowledgeable teachers. Every teacher takes personal care of every student. They see every student as an individual and help him or her overcome their faults. The study material provided is up to date and students are updated with all new trends entering the industry. Thus, students don’t face much problem in their 3-months industrial training as they have up to date information about the industry. LAD is supposed to be one of the best colleges for hotel management. Teachers are friendly and provide proper help whenever needed. The food festival conducted by the Hotel Management students is a huge hit! Besides 5-star and 7-star hotels a Hotel Management students have immense opportunities in Airlines, catering houses, cruises, shipping companies, BPOs, PR firms and other MNCs. A postgraduate degree or diploma from India or abroad on a specialised area of interests is highly recommended.
