Marathi made compulsory in all city schools
Vashi2panvel.com: Navi Mumbai: May 5: The Mee Mumbaikar campaign run by the Sainiks seem to have been taken seriously by the state government. That’s what we can conclude out of their latest move to introduce Marathi as a compulsory subject from Class 1 as against class 3 in the past.
Starting this academic year, 2006-07. The regional language would be taught in both primary and secondary education. Therefore, all English medium schools of the city are conducting meetings and discussions in the wake of the recent announcement. Marathi would be an optional subject for 9th and 10th standard student while 1st to 4th standard students will have it as a compulsory subject. “Parents who send their students to English medium school seem to forget the traditional Marathi culture. This step has been taken to revive the spirits of being Maharashtrian! The subject will carry 100 marks,” informed Dr. Vasantkal Pandey, President of Navi Mumbai Schools Association. Hazra Momin
