Vashi2Panvel.com: Navi Mumbai: February 28: The Agri-Koli Samaj is celebrating its third Agri Koli Mahotsav 2006 at CIDCO Administration ground near Vashi railway Station. The week-long festival begun on Monday and has a variety of programmes in its platter. So if you’re crazy about folk dances and folklores or love funfairs, orchestra and handicrafts then this is the right place for you!
Deepak Mhatre, organizer-Agri Koli Mahotsav and Editor-Navi Mumbai Newsline says, “The main aim of celebrating this festival is to introduce the Agri koli Culture to the rest of Maharashtra.” Through an exclusive conversation with Mhatre, Vashi2Panvel.Com gives an insight about the highlights of the event and the Agri-Koli culture. The Attires:“Kolis are the coastal residents. Their prime occupation is fishing and that is apparent from their dressing sense that suits their occupation. Koli women wearing half casta saree, blouse and duppatta and men in lungi and T-shirt and a cap will roam about this entire place on all the days. The Agri people, on the other hand, thrive on farming. women wear casta saree and men wear dhoti kurta.” The Food:“It’s an ideal place for all the food connoisseurs as they would get all Agri-Koli speciality dishes here. Kolis prefer sea-fishes like Prawns, Bombil, Pomfret, Chala and Bangara With fish curry they like to eat rice or Bhakari made from Rice. Agris eat Ghavan ( Chappati made from Rice ) and Curry.
