Outwitting 'the mom gene'
Vashi2Panvel.Com: Navi Mumbai: February 25: If you watch Supriya Pilgaonkar energetically grooving to variety dance numbers in amazing synchronization with husband Sachin Pilgaonkar as Jodi no 09 of Nach Baliye you would hardly believe that she has a teenaged daughter. In her 40s, Supriya defies her age and seems as supple as a liana. Her daughter definitely has inherited her energy and determination as she always appears as fresh as a lily! Supriya, who claims to be a dedicated mother, loves to look after her only daughter, Shriya and enjoys spending time with her. “I share everything with my daughter. I don’t think she ever hides anything from me. We both share a good relationship and she has always made me proud of herself,” beams mamma Pilganokar
But Supriya is not as easy-going as it sounds. She has instilled the core middle-class values in Shriya that she imbibed from her own parents as a child. She ensures that her daughter has all the right morals and she proudly says that Shriya has never let her down. Shriya who is currently learning Japanese as a hobby is truly a talented kid. She participates in a lot of co-curricular activities at St. Xavier’s College where she is pursuing Arts in class XI. She is also the winner of the young author award which was a national level competition. Ask Supriya if their daughter has also inherited her parents’ acting spree and she replies with a grin, “Yes, she does theatre and enjoys acting too but now that’s nowhere in her priority list. She recently got two offers for television but she denied,” says Supriya. Right now, Shriya wants to concentrate on her education and her parents support her decision. “My parents have already given me the go ahead to work in serials as this is not the penultimate year for me. Students generally take this year lightly but I’m determined to score good marks like I’ve always done. I believe doing other things right now apart from studying will only deviate me from my path which I don’t want,” she justifies. So what is it that she plans to do if not acting? She makes a huge question mark in the air and Supriya explains, “I don’t know what her future plans are but I’m confident about her. She is a whiz kid and her brilliance amazes me.” Mommy Supriya has a plethora to say in her daughter’s admiration. But what is it that Shriya eulogizes about her mom? “I’m startled by the energy mamma possesses. She can perform so many tasks at a time and that without a grudge. She takes care of everyone of us including our darling Hobo, our pet dog,” she says. But Supriya is not all about praises for Shriya. There are a few things about her that she abhor and would like her to reform. “Shriya is not very systematic. A peek into her room would suggest that she is a complete freak. I keep nagging her to look after her own room at least, if not the entire house but it falls into deaf ears,” she complains. “I think she should learn it with time,” she adds. But Shriya also has her set of complaints for mamma. She feels that her mom should stop seeing the darker side of life. Shriya also feels that her mom should control her wild anger that she keeps showering often! And Supriya too accepts it wholeheartedly. “Mamma is a pessimist. I want her to think positively and always stay happy in life. I don’t understand why mom has this tendency to underestimate herself and then shudder with negative thoughts. And you should see her when she’s angry!” Shriya warns. Supriya nods in complete agreement adding that, “I’ve hurt my near and dear ones on several occasions due to my wrath and I personally regret it. I would like to change this aspect of mine.” Being Sunday morning, Supriya-Sachin have their regular Nach Baliye rehearsals a bit late today. While Sachin is relaxing in his Sunday mood, Supriya volunteers to prepare pohe for Shriya who feels hungry by now. “You’re so adorable” is all Shriya tells mommy with a tight hug and a light peck as we bid them a goodbye and a good luck!
