Lakme India Fashion Week to kick-start from March 28, 2006
Vashi2Panvel.com: Navi Mumbai: February 24: Lakme India Fashion Week today announced the dates of the country’s mega fashion event to be held in Mumbai from March 28, 2006 – April 1, 2006. It is to be noted that just four days after this would be the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week raising its curtain in the country’s capital. Where IMG- the global leader in Fashion Weeks and event production is partnering Lakme to bring this event together, the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week is being organized by India’s parent fashion body – FDCI in association with Wills Lifestyle. Though the organizers of the Lakme Fashion Week maintain that the dates were chosen keeping in mind the international fashion calendar and not to grab the limelight from the Indian Fashion Week. Thirty designers from across the country will display their Fall/Winter collection before an unprecedented gathering of domestic and international buyers and media at the National Centre for the Performing Arts from March 28-April 1, 2006. Along with 18 well-known names, six designers each will participate in the Emerging Category and GenNext show. Lakme Fashion Week has removed any price point restrictions on designers showing on this platform. For the first time in India, participating designers will have freedom to show their collections at price points they have determined, which positive move is, adopting international norms at major fashion weeks. The five-day premier fashion event will include designer shows, an exclusive exhibition space, workshops, and business and media seminars.
Having an upper-hand in terms of experience, Lakme India Fashion Week can be seen as a serious threat to the success of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week specially now when it is not only being held just four days prior but also since the country’s top designers have joined hands with LFW against IFW. Commenting on this, Mr. Anil Chopra, Vice President, Lakme Lever said, “Having two fashion events is a boon for the designers. We do not see this as rivalry since it is more of creating opportunity for the pool of talent we have in our country.” He further added that LFW would support all the designers whole-heartedly by giving them a platform to showcase their talent in various fashion events being held at New York, Los Angeles, Singapore and Australia. Participating designers at Lakme Fashion Week will showcase their creations before national and international buyers and media, which will include four representatives each from the United States, European and Asia Pacific markets. Lakme’s joint partner for the event – IMG will do its bit to provide benefits to the participants of the fashion event by working closely with fashion events in Europe to develop benefits for participants of Lakme Fashion Week. The selection of designers who will be participating in these international events will be made by IMG’s team of global fashion experts along with Lakme. By Zainab Abbas
