"We are not against love, but against PDA", says Shiv Sena Vibhag Pramukh, Ranjana Khairnar about planned protests against Valentine's Day
Vashi2Panvel.com: Navi Mumbai: February 14: 14 Feb? It’s the time to celebrate love…well, not quite. Not for the Shiv Sainiks at least. Since last year, the party has been witnessing loads of political hungama with their ideologies being questioned. Even ‘Saamna’, the Shiv Sena mouthpiece has published a pro-valentine news piece! Is there an ideological shift? If there is, it's not showing up at the Navi Mumbai vibhag. In an exclusive interview with Vashi2Panvel.com, Mrs. Ranjana Khairnar, Shiv Sena Vibhag Pramukh, CBD Belapur, asserts quite vehemently that the Sena is not against love but will definitely oppose Valentin's Day celebrations, because of its 'western influence on our culture'.
What has Shiv Sena planned for today, 14th February? As always we shall oppose this day. Valentine's Day is a result of western influence on our rich cultural heritage. We plan to have our men posted at places frequented by couples like Sagar Vihar in Vashi. We shall also carry out a protest outside Modern College, Vashi. Has the party high command given any specific orders? Well, nothing specific but yes the Party High Command has asked us to carry out a protest and ensure that cuddling couples don’t do so in public. How would you combat the Raj-Thackeray supported BVS given their pro-valentine stand? We have only one leader, Udhav Thackeray and we follow his command. What Raj Thackeray has to say or do doesn’t bother us. If need be we will revolt against anyone who comes in our way to defend our culture. Why is it that you particularly target V-Day? Please don’t think that we are against love. What we oppose is Public Display of Affection (PDA) which demeans love. What is the difference between humans and animals if we also do the same? Love lies in the heart and not in physical proximity. Love must be celebrated and can be celebrated any time of the year. Moreover, people should remember Indian legends like Heer Ranjha, Sohi Mahiwal and Bajirao Mastani to celebrate love. Why should we depend on the West to celebrate love? If you’re against the Western influence then why does Shiv Sena not target Rock shows and rock culture? If at any point we do feel that rock culture is adversely affecting or deteriorating Indian Culture we shall come out and openly protest against it as well. Our prime objective is to work towards preserving our culture. Wasim Sayed
