Making the last journey easy
Vashi2Panvel.Com : Navi Mumbai : Sept 19: “No evil befalls ever the doer of good” goes the SIWA-Saayujyam’s (Apara Kriya Centre) motto. Saayujyam (Apara Kriya Centre), a unique initiative by the South Indian Welfare Association of Navi Mumbai, is a centre for performing post death rites or Uttara Kriya in Hindus.
Established in 1996 in Sector 14, Koperkhairane, the Centre has attracted people from areas like Navi Mumbai, Chembur, Thane, Dombivili and Pune. Says Secretary, P.A Krishnamurthy, “It is the duty of the son to do the Kriyas for his parents. Many people are not able to do these important rites because of various problems like space and facilities. Hence this initiative by us.” The Centre has 12 separate rooms, each equipped with a gas stove and utensils required for the preparation of food for the rites. A condolence hall that can accommodate around 300 people is also available for holding condolence for holding condolence meetings, chauthas, baithaks, besnas etc. The centre is exclusively for Hindus while the condolence hall is available to Christians. The centre also has a well, the water from which can be used for the performance of rites. The revenue from the centre comes mainly from donations by people who perform rites and sponsors though it is not mandatory that the people who perform the rites donate.
