Superstar Mamooty readies for Hindi film release
Vashi2Panvel.Com: Navi Mumbai: Sept 14: Sau Jhooth Ek Sach marks the return of southern superstar Mammootty to Hindi films, after a long hiatus. This is Mammootty’s third film in Hindi after Dharti Putra and Triyatri, besides Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, which was made in English.
What is your role in Sau Jhooth Ek Sach? I play the title role of Ek Sach. I play Vivek, a cop from Colaba Police Station, who is very unlike a hindi film cop. It is a very difficult and challenging role, it is completely non-action and probably my best in the national language. What made you accept the offer though you are very rigid about your price? Firstly, I liked the story. I have worked with Bappaditya, in Ek Din Anjaane Mein, in which I have been teamed opposite Raveena Tandon and Rinkie Khanna. I know, it is a sincere and honest effort. The fact that I knew the people who were associated with the making of the film also made me say yes to the project though like you said I am very particular about my price. In any case it is your judicious mind that selects any role. I think my choice will prove to be right when the film is released. How challenging was your role in Sau Jhooth Ek Sach? Honestly speaking I am not facing any challenges as an actor here in Mumbai though I am more than willing. How do you feel when people call you the super star (Bachchan) of the South? I am only amused because Rajinikant is the super star of the South whereas I am just an actor. Nowadays, Mr Bachchan plays the role of the father, I continue to play the son who romances, at the age of 52. Why are you so choosy when it comes to signing Hindi films? To tell you the truth, the offers are not quite interesting. On an average I act in a hindi film once in three years. Do you think the people will accept an offbeat film like Sau Jhooth Ek Sach? Why should we have a pre-conceived notion about which film will run and which will not? Any film, which is made with honesty and a sense of commitment and courage of conviction, will run, whether you like it or not. Amitabha Singh has produced the film in just 24 days with a shoestring budget of just Rs 80 lakhs. I shot for the film for 18 nights at a stretch while during the day Bappaditya was shooting the other portions where I was not required. How would you rate your prowess as a dancer? As far as dancing is concerned, I keep on trying but fail every time, because I have two left feet What do you think of the Hindi film scenario now? I think the entire scenario of Hindi Cinema is changing for the better. There is actually a parallel cinema happening. Like Sau Jhooth Ek Sach. Jyothi Venkatesh
