After last year's riots, heavy police bandobast at Ghansoli during holi
Vashi2Panvel.Com: Navi Mumbai: March 3: After last years pink (gulal) turning into red (blood), this year Navi Mumbai police have increased there bandobast. This time the police as well as people of Ghansoli will be alert as last year on 16 th March, i.e the holi day itself the Ghasoli riots had started and went on for almost 10 days. In this a lot of people lost their lives and houses.
Last year on 16th March a fight between Mathadi (porters) workers and Ghansoli villagers took place on the occasion of holi, a few young village boys put Gulal on a young girl from Mathadi Kamgar Society. This happened at Simplex Complex in Sector 8, Ghansoli, Navi Mumbai. The girl's elder brother got angry and shouted at the villagers. Mathadi workers broke around 200 vehicles of the villagers at around 2am, to take revenge. In the morning at around 9.00am the tension peaked when the mob of around 1500 villagers started throwing stones towards the society. Police could not control the mob and so had to go in for firing in the air. Mob threw stones on each other from both the sides. This situation is still fresh in every Navi Mumbaikars mind. But this year as of now no case of balloon throwing, eve teasing for holi or gulal throwing has been registered, informed police to press. ACP Amar Jadhav said that leave of all police staff has been cancelled for the next two days. Special Bandobast is kept at Ghansoli and Koperkharine as well as additional police staff has been deployed from Mumbai, he concluded. Kartiki Shastry
