Vashi2Panvel.Com: Navi Mumbai: October 13: In this series of ‘Kissa Kursi Ka’, we take a look at the NMMC corporators’ work, what they are delivering and if there have been any slip-ups. Here both corporators and residents come face-to-face. We now profile Corporator Madavi Vikarm Shinde. She is responsible for NMMC Ward no.52, which covers Sector 16, 16-A and partly Sector 15 of Vashi.

Madavi Shinde came to Navi Mumbai 10 years ago after her marriage, prior to which she was staying at her parental home at Sangali. Mother of two girls strikes a good balance between house and work. She is a very popular Corporater in her vicinity as well among her colleagues and NMMC staff. She has the full family support as she stays in a joint family and so can give more time to solve the problems of residents.

She is…

She is the President of the Group of Independent Candidates. She was the first one to conduct Navratri festival in her ward in which even senior citizen ladies participated with full enthusiasm along with their children. She also organizes programmes for almost all Marathi festivals like Nagpanchami, etc. She has also become the adviser for Pargati Mitra Mandal, which is primarily operating to resolve the problems of senior citizens.

What have I done for my ward:

She has built a Sulab Suchalya (public Toilet) near the MTNL office at Sector 16 and Library in Sector 16 A, Vashi. A playground for children with various kinds of swings is also built in her ward under her guidance. Her activities center on self-employment to the widows as well as economically weak ladies in her ward. Through the NMMC schemes she encourages women to take up technical training like sewing, knitting, etc. She had provided sewing machine to many women after they have received the technical training. Every year Haldikumkum and health camps are also conducted in her ward with her assistance.

What is pending:

She wants to build a Gym as well as four floors library at Sector 16 of her ward for poor children, whose fees will be nominal. Beautification of open gutters on the main road, as they cannot be closed now as per the law, will be done soon. She plans to use her Corporater Funds for all these projects. Beatification of gardens between Sector 15 and Sector 16 near the Mini Shopping Complex is also on her agenda.

What are my plans:

She wants to revamp all the playgrounds in her ward so that the people who cannot afford a hall can use these gardens for family functions.

Public Opinion:

Most of the residents of Sector 16 had just one say that the open gutters should be closed and its beatification must be done as soon as possible since open gutters help in mosquitoes breeding.
