Vashi2Panvel.Com: Navi Mumbai: September 20: In this series ‘Kissa Kursi Ka’, we take a look at the NMMC corporators’ work, what they are delivering and if there have been any slip-ups. Here both corporators and residents come face-to-face. We now profile Corporator Mrs Viniya Manohar Madvi. She is responsible for NMMC ward no.17, which covers Airoli Sector 5,6,7,8A, 9 and a part of Rabale Village.

Mrs.Vinaya has been recently appointed as Chairperson (Sabhapati) of Mahila and Balkalyan Samiitee for the year 2006-07. Earlier there were just six programmes in this committee, which she increased to 15 with a budget of around 50 lakhs. All the new programmes are for the upliftment of poor and widow women and their children.

Vinaya Madvi’s Report Card

She is…

She is a resident of Airoli, Sector 5 since 1991 (after marriage). She did not have any prior political background untill she got elected in 2000 elections from Ward No.17. She was the only lady contestant at that time as all other party contestants were male. She informed Vashi2Panvel.Com that she was not at all skeptical about that as Ganesh Naik, State Environment Minister was there to support her. She proudly said that she graduated after her marriage and has always had full family support. Prior to this, she has been attending a lot of functions and was an active social worker in the area. She informed that all the residents, specially women are satisfied with me about the functioning of the ward as I always attend all their programmes.

What have I done for my ward:

The best thing that has been done so far is 24 hours water supply for Sector 5, 6 and 7. 16 gents and 16 ladies toilets have been built under the Sulabh Savchalaya Scheme at Sector 8A, behind Rabale Village. There was no footpath in Rabale village, people had to risk there lives and walk on the road, I have built a footpath there. There is a NMMC school in Sector 7, which was in a bad condition; I have spend 2 lakhs more from my allocated budget to repair it. There was no garden for students in the school, now I have built it, which made all the students happy. I have built 4 libraries in the area, where students can sit and read books as per there convenience, free of cost. I developed Bhaskar ground in a place which was earlier a wasteland in Airoli so that all the youngsters can play cricket, football and even small children can come here for enjoyment. We have built a Special Gym both for ladies and gents, which has all the latest equipments in it.

What is pending:

I will celebrate Children's day with the kids who stay in slums and arrange food and trip for them. I will try to increase the trains frequency on the Vashi-Thane route, may be by October. Construction of proper roads in Panvel-Thane route is also on my agenda.

What are my plans:

I want to build a mall or a building for the poor and widow women of the area in which they will make their products and sell it also. I have taken this idea from Pune Municipal Corporation. This building will be located at a central place convenient for the ladies as well as for the buyers

Public Opinion:

Mhatre, Ricksaw driver said, “ The only thing I want is increase in trains in this route, that will add to our business also.”

Sitabai, a sweeper in the area said, “ She was happy that the NMMC School now is developing and has good facilities as she can send her son their only.”
