Vashi2Panvel.Com: Navi Mumbai: September 18: Though with changing trends there are new options opening up in the professional fields, the charm and contentment associated with a career through which you serve others can never be ignored. Dental Science is career choice that has always been considered as a prime option for the students to make career. There are so many unfamiliar fields within this line providing a wide scope for those interested in venturing something new. Dr. Smita Hande, a 2006 B.D.S. graduate from Yerla Medical Trust, Kharghar shares her experience in the field and the future prospects in this field.
“When I joined this line I was not so sure that if I really want to do this but after getting a hold on it I started enjoying it,” says Smita excitingly. “The field excites me because it provides one with numerous new options to explore and then decide where you want to work upon finally. Unlike what others think it is not restricted to only dentistry rather it has many related fields like facial upliftment through rearrangement of teeth and others,” she adds. On asking about the college and the subjects in the field, Smita replies that there are many subjects divided into eight semesters, which not only deals with the Dental study but also includes study on Skeleton system in the face and the nervous connections. The course is quite diverse and gives proper insight on every aspect linked with the primary subject. “Our college had well equipped laboratories, which helped us to carry out all the practicals quite easily, it is very important for our course to do the lab work properly because it helps us to understand the practical purpose of the entire study and of course, it also helps us to secure good marks,” explicates Smita. The emphasis on practicality is being laid through the six months internship program, which is compulsory with the course. The future prospects of the course are bright and open many new opportunities for the person. “According to the newspaper reports, there is lot of requirement and openings for the dental practitioners in the foreign countries like Britain, Australia etc. Even in India, dental problems are such that people cannot afford to ignore as the pain is intolerable,” she avers. The packages, which are offered at initial levels, are starting from 10,000 to 15,000. These are gradually raised as in initial days a dentist has to practice under a senior doctor to gain enough experience. So, all those who want to relieve others of their pains and gain good returns out of it, can join this course for sure.
