Bakery: A sweet business
Vashi2Panvel.Com: Navi Mumbai: September 14: “Creamy cakes, delicious pastries, salty wafers, spicy patties, these are not the only things associated with the bakery stores all over the city. There is much more to be explored in this lately flourishing business in the satellite city. With the changing trends, people’s taste is also shifting towards the newly opening not-so-branded bakery stores in the city. The customers have been shifting their opinions regarding the branded cake shops, which are making the business of these small bakeries flourish these days.
“I have been into this industry since last 2 and 1/2 years and there has been tremendous growth in the business since then,” says Sheraz K, Occasions Cake shop, Nerul. “I am a hotel management professor practicing in D.Y.Patil College, Nerul. When I started this business I did not have any clue that people will like it so much, we have a base of customers who like to order from our shop on every occasion,” he explicates. The most loved cakes made by the occasions is white forest and pineapple cream. The major reason why people are attracted towards these stores is not only the lower price of the cakes but the freshness and a different taste, which they love to have. “I have been making cakes from last 10 years, earlier I was in Powai and now after relocating to Navi Mumbai, the business is concentrated here,” says Neel kamal Grover, Delhi chaat, Vashi, which also provides exclusive home made cakes. “The specialty about our cakes is that we make icing from amul butter and imported chocolates is used for flavouring the chocolate cakes,” she elucidates. She further adds that though the prices are quite comparable with the branded cake shops, the unique taste makes the customer come again and again after eating the cake once. These shops are doing good business and making handsome profit since they have earned a good name in their vicinity. “The major factor which helps us to retain our customer base is the image, that we have created for ourselves in past five years. People come to our shop through mouth publicity that is done by our existing customers,” elucidates Dilip Lal, Sales Manager, Om bakery, Panvel. “The prices are comparatively lesser than the branded store because we do not add any kind of extra taxes. The consumer base has almost doubled since we opened here,” he adds. It takes one bold step to be successful in your endeavors. Initially these bakery owners never thought that their step will fetch them so much of return. They simply followed their instincts that resulted into a prosperous business.
