Swimming champ Anagha is back
Vashi2panvel.com: Navi Mumbai: September 8: City’s pride and national level swimming champion Anagha Walimbe (18) is readying herself for a super comeback in swimming championships after a year’s break. After swimming the water of success in nine national swimming tournaments, Anagha is all set to for senior level championships and inter-college swimming tournaments.
“As of now I am just looking forward to coming back in form. I had taken a break from swimming for my HSC exams. And for that I am undergoing a rigorous swimming practice session under the guidance of Navi Mumbai Sports Association Coach Gokul Kamath”, divulges Anagha. This young swimmer took up the sport as a hobby at the tender age of nine, soon became a passionate swimmer and her performance kept on improving with every passing day. At the age of 10, she left her mark at the district level swimming tournament held at Kalwa, Thane by securing third position. Her talent came into limelight when she was declared as Maharastra’s fastest swimmer (girls) in 5 km sea race in 2003 and 2005. In the year 2004 she bagged a gold medal at National Swimming tournament at Sirsa in Haryana and silver as well bronze medal in National Swimming Championship at New Delhi that made her the feather in the city’s cap. Besides this, she also stood first three times in Kase Karanja sea race held at Uran. There is long list of medals, titles, and awards won by this promising swimmer. For this young achiever her father Rajendra Walimbe is the constant motivator of her life but she also credits her mother as well as her coach Gokul Kamath for her success. Australian swimmer Ianthorpe is the one, whom Anagha looks up to as a swimmer. Anagha tells, “I idolize Ianthorpe as I admire his swimming strokes and his never-say-die spirit.”The sensitive nature of this talented sports girl may make her appear fragile but her strong determination certainly reveals her stronger side and potential.
