DAV’s multi agenda programme creates awareness amongst students
Vashi2Panvel.Com: Navi Mumbai: September 7: Not many people are aware that the committees within the educational institutions are behind some of the best public service work within their own span of reach. These schools and colleges along with their youth force get unified to do some of the fruitful activities to serve the society. In our series of such in-house committees operating under an educational organization, we now present an insight on the various internal committees and community service done by D.A.V. Public School, New Panvel.
The school has been there for almost seven years now and has been highly praised in terms of its educational standards and co-curricular activities. The school has three affiliations with it, ISO 14001-2004 series for the environment care, ISO 9001- 2000 series for the educational standards and OHSAS (Occupational Health Safety Awareness Series) for the safety precautions taken in the school. “We are the first school in the country to get three certifications from the recommended organizations that too in a short span of time,” says Priya Sood, teacher-in-charge gladly. “The school has been encouraging its students to be socially aware and concerned about the activities happening in the society. Apart from this, the students have also been enthusiastically involved in making biodegradable dustbins as well as distributing the same in the vicinity to generate consciousness,” she adds. The “Environment Committee” of the school is responsible for conceptualizing various events related to environment protection and awareness generation. “The committee is proactive in organizing various events where the students of all the classes can be involved and thus gear up to do some productive work for the area,” avers Smita Mandlik, the coordinator of the school who is an active member of the committee. “The recent activities done by the club is the “Vanmahotsava” on 30th August when the students went on a rally around the nearby areas,” she explicates. The society is also included in this as they are the getting aware about this important issue. “The tree plantation drive included planting new trees and taking care of the existing trees, the students went in the nearby areas to plant new trees under the plantation drive,” she avers. DAV has also got a calamity relief committee called “Asha” within the campus and this committee has pooled in quite a large sum of money with the help of the students to support the destitutes. “According to the our records, for the past academic year we along with our students assistance, have generated around one lac seventy thousand for the various relief work in the surrounding areas, including Tsunami, Flood and National Association for Blind,” informs Priya Sood. In the health awareness drive, the social club of the school organised various seminars, which were open for general public to create awareness about the health issues. “The AIDS awareness created through a seminar by Dr.Janardan, who informed people about this feared disease”, she elucidates. The authorities however informed that each and every activity is done after concerning with the student representative of the particular group, who are the school head boy and head girl and the heads of the different houses. All these human welfare activities done by the school proves: where there is a will there is a way, and surely these students deserve a pat for their society betterment services, which they are conducting within the school boundaries.
