Vashi2Panvel.Com: Navi Mumbai: August 29: ‘Hi I’m Naveen Singh. I’m from Falana Dimkhana and I’m the first reporter to break the ‘Hitler’ story’. (Both name of the journo and the paper have been changed to protect their identities.) But this is how Mr Singh introduces himself to other lesser mortals. It’s a sign of the times.

It’s not just him. Most journos seem to fight tooth and nail to take responsibility for a ‘newsbreaking’ story these days. The story per se seems to pale in significance when pitted against the importance of a journalist. So don’t be surprised if you come across someone who says “Hi. I’m so and so. I’m the first reporter who reported on such and such rape story/ bomb blast/ Tsunami….” With every news media organization desperate to do a ‘newsbreak’ story, the poor journalist is only known by his last big story!
