Students’ service to humanity
Vashi2Panvel.com: Navi Mumbai: August 24: We always acknowledge the works done by individual “non-government, non-profit, unaided’ organizations that work towards humanity and mankind. What we ignore is that there are several councils run by the future citizens-school and college kids- that perform some deeds to make the deprived feel special! These councils work within the authority of the respective educational institution. Here, there are students as the active members who are ever ready to do some extraordinary work for the people, for the nation! In this week, we profile the sub-organisations or the councils within SIES (Nerul) College of Arts, Science and Commerce.
The N.S.S. (National Service Scheme) is an independent organization in the college whose goal is to make students realize the importance of social service and co-ordination in the society. They organize orientation programmes for the benefit of the students. Recently, they organized a similar programme with the University coordinator Dr.Pramod Pabrekar and Dist coordinator K.Dhondek. They sold 1000 flags made by the mentally challenged children through Hitech Family, a Mankhurd-based NGO on the eve of Independence Day. Swati Vitkar, the council head is determined to plan up more events like blood donation drive, tree plantation week and working for the adopted community. “Every NSS council has to adopt a community in the neighboring area, so we have taken up the area near L.P., Nerul and we have recently organised a tree plantation drive over there by planting more than 50 trees,” informs Swati Vitkar. They also regularly organize 10 days’ camp for its members at Shantivan, Panvel. The conservation club is another social work center of the college. They have also sponsored various students and their families for health and education related matters. “The events which are lined up for this semester are workshop on Pisciculture and Water Harvesting,” explains Rita Basu, the council head.
