Vashi2Panvel.Com: Navi Mumbai: August 15: In this series ‘Kissa Kursi Ka’, we take a look at the NMMC corporators’ work, what they are delivering and if there have been any slip-ups. Here both corporators and residents come face-to-face. This week, it's Corporator Nirmala Palkar. She belongs to ward no. 85, committed to work for CBD Sector-2, 8A, 8B, Artists Village and nearby slum area.

Nirmala Palkar's report card

She is..
A social worker in true sense specially devoted to cause of women. She was the President of Lions Club of CBD in 1999-2000. She has also served the society by handling offices of Chairman of Gagangiri Mitra Mandal and President of Saheli Mahila Mandal at CBD. She believes working quietly, without a desire for publicity.

What have I done for my wards?

“I have arranged donation of domestic kitchen appliances to poor women enabling them to stand on their own feet, through Chaitanya Mahila Mandal, CBD.

I have arranged financial assistance to needy widows of my ward under 'Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Yojna'.

I have organised several free medical and eye check up camps, with distribution of Spectacles to people of slum area of my ward.

I have promoted saving schemes for poor ladies of my ward.

I have started literacy movement under 'Setu Sarv Shikshan Abhiyaan' for children of labourers of my ward.

I have motivated needy senior citizens of my ward to undergo Medical Insurance Scheme.
We have started a scheme through ladies of my ward to visit regularly Narmada Niketan Home for aged people.

What is pending

“I have initiated a school up to 7th std. in sector-8B, for which CIDCO has already given plot to NMMC; the bhoomi poojan taking place this Diwali.

What are my plans?

"I am planning to start an indoor game and gymnasium complex (like YMCA) at Veer Jawan Garden at sector-8B

I have elaborate plans to start a hospital, community centre, bus terminal for my ward for which CIDCO will shortly arrange plots for us.

I have a dream to convert the dam site at sector-8B in to a tourist place which will have garden, restaurants and boating facilities.

Public Opinion

Jabir Singh from Kuku's Nest, Sector 8 said "The road dividing sector 8 and 8A have too many potholes and requires immediate attention."

Vasudeo Naik from Chaitanya Building sector-8A, says " Nirmala Palkar is good person visiting here regularly."

Suhasini Mastkar from 4/11 Artists Village says, "We know Nirmala Palkar very well as social worker, she visits here sometimes. Last year during 26/7 deluge, our house had knee deep water, our fridge, TV all got damaged. Something should be done, before another such calamity occurs."

Avinash Shinde from Giri Kunj Society says "Nirmala Madam is attentive to our problems."

Vandana Shinde from slum area sector 8B says, "Nirmala Tai is doing good job. We have no water problem now. Only few trees on this slope are little dangerous and fall anytime, this work is pending since long"
