‘Be fearless, we will take care’: Ramarao Wagh, Police Commissioner
Vashi2Panvel.Com: Navi Mumbai: August 3: Ramarao Wagh has recently taken charge as Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner. An IPS from 1984 batch, Ramarao has over 26 years of experience in various Police departments like SRP, Police Intelligence, Police Training School, Anti Corruption Bureau etc. He was previously holding the post of Joint Commissioner of Anti-Corruption Bureau. Navi Mumbai citizens welcome this dynamic man packed with confidence. Vashi2Panvel.Com took an exclusive interview with Mr. Ramarao to know about his plans for the satellite city. Excerpts of the interview:
V2P: What are your priorities, now that you’ve taken the charge from Mr.Vijay Kamble? This city is developing very fast and the population graph is continuously rising. With this, all sorts of problems pertaining to rapid urbanization are bound to come. It may relate to law & order, crime etc. Now it is our duty to pay heed to such problems. Serious crimes will be tackled properly. Several big industries are also coming up in Navi Mumbai. And, we are responsible for the security of all such industries. After the serial bomb blast in Mumbai Suburban Trains, our attention shall be towards terrorist activities too. V2P: Do you feel the Police force in Navi Mumbai at present is enough to implement all your plans? No, it looks less as the city is growing rapidly. Taking this into account, Government has recently recruited 500 more policemen who are under training. In the near future there will be another recruitment drive for an equal number of police force. So, after about a year we will be in a position to bring better results. V2P: Are there any measures to balance out the pressure and stress on a policeman? We are planning a Police Health & Welfare Scheme at state level. We will also start health camps with the assistance of NGOs and trusts. V2P: Recently ACB caught a Panvel Tehsildar for accepting a bribe. However Navi Mumbai Police had no clues about this. Any comments? Actually, ACB is a completely different department. Police is not involved here directly. In ACB the inquiry treatment is different from the one in Police Department. The case you are referring was handled by one of my previous colleagues. One thing is important- you have to follow the truth in the real sense of the term only then can you work in ACB. V2P: How would your experience in ACB be useful in performing duties more efficiently here?My experience of working in ACB will definitely be of great help in making our basic police work more effective especially in the direction of intelligence gathering for crime. And we will find good results within a couple of months only. V2P: What message would you like to convey to the citizens of Navi Mumbai?I appeal to all the citizens of this city to be fearless. Whether it is crime or any natural calamity, we will take care of it. However we require your full support during investigations. Umesh Malviya
