Delhi Police must be alert, say Navi Mumbaikars
Vashi2Panvel.Com: Navi Mumbai: August 1: The security lapse case in PM’s official residence in Delhi has been the hot topic of discussion since the past four days. In a serious breach of security, three youngsters drove up to one of the inner gates of Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh's residence on July 27 night. The trio comprised of two airhostesses of Sahara airlines along with a male friend. All three were detained after first being allowed to drive out. It was only when journalists, who are routinely subjected to tough security checks at the PM's residence, raised the issue with the Special Protection Group personnel that the security men realised the seriousness of the situation and alerted the Delhi Police.
People across the country are giving diverse opinions on this issue. We spoke to a few Navi Mumbai residents to discover what is their stand on the issue. The youth found it hard to accept that the detained youngsters were at fault. “Anyone would like to meet the PM and their act was justified as they first asked the security at the gate before moving in,” says Anshul Garg, a second year student of SIES (Nerul). “It would have been a different situation if they tried to enter without consulting the security force,” she opines. Many others belonging to the same age group agreed. “The security personnel at the gate were at fault completely because it is their responsibility to screen who gets inside the gate and who doesn’t,” says Tina Thakur, a Panvel resident. The main point of concern here is not pointing out the culprits but looking at the core issue as to why a journalist had to notify the guards about the vehicle. “The concern here is how can the security system in PM’s residence be so lenient that anyone can get inside the premises,” says Deepak Baruah, who works in CBD. “The high officials instead of rubbing out dirt from their hands should take this matter seriously and ensure that this kind of mistake is not repeated,” he avers. While most of the people feel that it is the security at fault, there are others who think exactly opposite and consider youngsters as the cause of the problem. “The youth of today think everything is so easy. They should realize the importance of the issue and this case should not be treated lightly,” feels Shyam Raghavanendra, a Vashi resident. He also thinks that the police should be more cautious in such cases. The others feel that the matter must be taken seriously as this is a grave issue. “If the youth were just finding out how to meet the PM, they should have stopped right on the first gate. There was no need to get in and create a problematic situation for themselves,” opines Bijendra Sahay, a Nerul resident. Smriti Mishra
