Vashi2Panvel.Com: Navi Mumbai: July 18: Commuting in Navi Mumbai has been reduced to sheer distress for daily passengers. Why? All thanks to a few unscrupulous auto rickshaw drivers who follow the law of the jungle law. They flout all traffic rules and regulation and loot the commuters off their money by charging the illegal return-charges. Many commuters complain that they have to shell out the ‘half-charge’(50 percent more than the meter reading) when going from Vashi to Nerul in an auto rickshaw. This seems to be an unwritten code, as none of the rickshaw drivers agree to ply from Vashi to Nerul and vice versa, without half returns.

Besides, bogus traffic cards, which are beyond the common man’s comprehension, are another medium used by the drivers to fleece more money out of the gullible passengers.

Assistant RTO, Purushottam Nikam commented on this issue. He says, “We are conducting surprise checks of auto rickshaws at Palm Beach Road. We book the drivers who demand half return charges or carry bogus cards.
